Taste – Solution-Focused Skills and Practice for Schools
This course is designed to provide a “Taste” of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy for schools. Participants will recognize how solution-focused conversations are a significant paradigm shift, describe the major tenets underlying SFBT, and label the major SFBT interventions. It offers schools and educational institutions an opportunity to be introduced to the approach and consider further training if interested. This course provides a 2-hour live interactive session with opportunities for participants to pose questions, clarify ideas, and broaden perspectives. It is available for unlimited participants.

Target Audience: Educators, School counselors and workers, psychologists, mental health counselors, administrators and medical practitioners within school settings; appropriate for all levels of knowledge. This course provides participants with an overview of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy in the context of schools, including higher educational institutions such as college counseling and advising. Solution-focused brief therapy and practices is an evidence-based trauma-informed treatment approach that can be implemented within diverse contexts and educational settings.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize how Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) represents a paradigm shift in education by identifying key differences between problem-focused and solution-focused approaches through structured chat discussions.
- Describe the major tenets of SFBT as applied in school and educational settings by summarizing key concepts in response to instructor-led chat prompts.
- Identify and differentiate major and specific SFBT interventions used in school settings by responding to case-based chat exercises and structured discussions.
Course Agenda
This course includes a two-hour live overview of the solution-focused approach with a master solution-focused clinician. The two hours are scheduled to meet your organization’s needs. The session is recorded and will be included in the online materials that each participant will receive.
Course Assessment
Participants will be assessed in the following manner:
- Class Participation: Students are invited to clarify things they do not understand, pose questions, offer ideas, and broaden perspectives.
